A Shaded View on Fashion Film

“The face of 1966” is a fake Documentary based on the life of iconic model of the 60s Twiggy. With my friend and artistic partner Paula Kletschke we created a parody with artificials elements such as wigs, clothes and makeup in the atmosphere of a vibrant studio. As a fashion photographer I’ve always admired the work of Steven Meisel an Rihard Avedon who were for me the only photographers who really understood models and their talents to capture and define an era. Twiggy was one of them an in a way Paula Kletschke represents in her way our time, with her androgynous beauty, her slim silhouette an her elegant and dynamic moves.

Director Statement
Laurent Poleo-Garnier
French-venezuelian artist born in Paris in 1995.

Laurent Poleo-Garnier is a visual artist who works in photography, dance, make-up and costume. The guiding thread of his various creative projects, which can take the form of a portrait, a performance or a film, is transformation. He defines himself as a transformist and uses the artifices of the stage to lead his subjects into unknown states thanks to the magic of costume and make-up.
His recent artistic collaboration with the singer Belle initiative on her clip For ever allowed him to fully express his creativity as a transformist. As a versatile artist, he likes to go on stage just as much, as shown by his latest creation for the Giacometti Institute in Paris in January 2023 entitled Phantom Parades for a Rose, a surrealist duet composed with the Spanish actress mina Serrano.
Three years ago he started an artistic collaboration with the contemporary dancer François Chaignaud. He notably signed his portrait for the official poster of the Festival d’Automne, in 2020. Dance therefore occupies an important place in his work, transposing his art of transformation in the direction of the models who pose for him.
