Ayanda Iman Sadek is a multi-disciplinary artist who best executes artistic expression through the medium of film. Ayanda is an artist whose inspiration is derived from the complexity of the human paradox. Ayanda’s work aims to explore a range of themes, from those concerning questions of the self; to those aiming to dissect the anatomy of human relationships. However, despite having philosophical undertones, Ayanda equally enjoys expressing her art in a way that is aesthetic, out-of-the-box, and visually pleasing to an audience. Her stories are still rich in drama, comedy, conflict, and action – ingredients that serve as a palatable digestor for her challenging themes.
‘When We Blossom’ is a short fashion film that I wrote, produced, and directed after reaching out to a local South African lingerie brand named Nette Rose. For quite a while, I had been taken, not only by Nette Rose’s high-quality and unique garments, but also by the way in which the themes of self-love, sisterhood, femininity, and body positivity are woven so poetically through every thread of their brand. When I decided to invest in my first ‘professional’ short film, I knew that I wanted to collaborate with a brand whose values and aesthetics I align with. Thus, ‘When We Blossom’ is a visual articulation of women loving their bodies, and finding solace in each other through this shared love for the self.
Through finding comfort in our own bodies, we come together
